Diffrence between Indian and Western culture

Well, when we talk about two different societies there is no winner. Both societies have their merits and demerits. Now let us have a deeper look with side by side comparison on basis of different parameters.

KEY DIFFERENCES

Indian society is defined as the culture, customs, traditions, festivals, religion in India. It is one of the oldest cultures of the world and seems to be used for ages whereas Western culture originated from Greece and Rome and then spread all over the world. After being adopted by European culture it is now referred to as the modern way of thinking.

1. Religion

Indian society mainly comprises of people practising religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Christianity and Islam.

Western society is formed mainly of people who practice Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

2. Food

Indian food is full of species and is rich in flavour. Vegetarian food is preferred more and people emphasis on lunch and dinner.
Western food has meat as its basis and is a must-have in every meal. People emphasis on dinner.

3. Types of family

Indian culture is mainly associated with joint families but with urbanisation and westernisation, there is a drastic decline in numbers of joint families. People have a strong relationship with their families.

Western culture has a concept of nuclear families prevalent. People are not strongly bonded with their family members and most of the children leave their parents home by age of 18.

4. Festivals

Indian culture is full of festivals. With so much diversity and religions, there are many different festivals being celebrated some of them being Holi, Diwali, Christmas, Eid.

Western culture comprises of festivals such as Christmas, Labour day, Easter, Halloween. There are many other festivals celebrated by people of different beliefs.

5. Marriages

Indian culture has the concept of arranged marriages common but still love marriages are increasing with time and modernisation of society.

Western culture has the concept of love marriages and people hardly prefer arranged marriages.

6. Clothing

Indian culture has traditional clothing depending upon region and religion. Saree for women and sherwanis for men are some of the famous ethnic clothing.

Western culture has now considered modern clothing. Jeans and shirt being main of them.

7. Languages

Indian culture has Hindi as the highly spoken language. People here also speak English on a wide scale.Tamil, Telegu, Bengali being some of the regional languages.

Western culture has English as highly spoken language followed by French and Spanish language.

So, Indian culture being a culture working on traditional view is still improving whereas western culture still has to work on family bondings. Both cultures have a lot to learn from each other and this will contribute to the betterment of humanity.
